Don’t Let Your Performance Reviews Get Stuck in Groundhog Day

Feel like you are stuck in the movie Groundhog Day with your performance reviews? Let Teamphoria break the cycle! Please tell me you’ve seen the movie and are getting my reference? Bill Murray (a Charleston local) stars as a TV weatherman Phil Connors, doomed to relive Groundhog Day over and over again in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Get where I’m going with this? Don’t get stuck in a performance review rut!

  1. Switch up your review cycle: Throw out the annual reviews and switch to monthly check-ins or quarterly reviews. Make sure your questions are thoughtful and not too generic. Check out our favorites here.
  2. Request feedback from peers: Switch up your review process by requesting feedback from peers. Peers work day to day with your direct reports, more so than managers, so their feedback in important.
  3. Request feedback from people outside of your organization: Really want to know how someone is doing – ask your clients or vendors that work with them day in and day out.
  4. Don’t fear change: There is nothing worse than being stuck in the same cycle over and over.
