It’s 5:00 pm. You slam the laptop closed, race out the door, and start thinking about your evening. Let’s see… there’s dinner, soccer practice, laundry… let the games begin!

Hold up – for two minutes. We promise it will be worth it.

According to a study done by the University of Florida, stress level & physical complaints declined by roughly 15% after employees spent time reflecting on three things that had gone well each day.

There are hundreds of statistics supporting the benefits of meditation and reflection, but we are suggesting that you start small. Before you rush out the door into the hustle and bustle of your after-work life, take two minutes and ask yourself these two simple questions.

1. How was your day?

It seems so simple, but how often do you actually stop and think to yourself, “Hey self, your day was pretty awesome!” Or maybe your day was just so-so, or even absolutely terrible. Heck, the day is over, it doesn’t matter how it went, but it’s important to honestly acknowledge and reflect on how it went.

And secondly, and more importantly…

2. Why?

Did you have a crappy day because you spilled coffee on your favorite shirt this AM and just never quite bounced back? Or are you stressed out about projects? Was it awesome because you had a great conversation with a colleague? Keep a simple log. What makes you happy & what ruins your day? It seems elementary, but unless you take a few minutes to reflect on the how & why it will be impossible to make improvements. Over time, you’ll start to notice trends, and then you can do something about it! Your happiness is in your hands more than you realize.

Now that we’ve got that covered, “How is your day going so far?”
